Which vegetables are allowed on the Tayyibat system?
Twelve vegetables are kept in the Tayyibat system, several only under a precise preparation condition. The full list, and what changes everything.
Short answer
The Tayyibat system keeps 12 vegetables: potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, taro, molokhia, mushroom, zucchini, eggplant, tomato, onion, bell pepper and vine leaves. Several are kept only under a condition: tomato peeled, deseeded and cooked, onion cooked and never raw, bell pepper cooked only, vine leaves in small quantity and rarely.
The full vegetable table
The table below lists every vegetable the system classifies, whether kept or set aside. Status alone is not enough: for half of the kept vegetables, a precise preparation condition decides whether they stay tayyib or shift to the khabith side.
| Vegetable | Status | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Potato | kept | |
| Sweet potato | kept | |
| Pumpkin | kept | |
| Taro | kept | |
| Molokhia | kept | cooked in broth, fresh or dried leaves |
| Mushroom | kept | |
| Zucchini | kept | |
| Eggplant | kept | cooked only, occasional dish |
| Tomato | kept | peeled, deseeded, cooked |
| Onion | kept | cooked, never raw |
| Bell pepper | kept | cooked only |
| Vine leaves | kept | rare, small quantity |
| Garlic | set aside | |
| Cucumber | set aside | |
| Lettuce | set aside | |
| Spinach | set aside | |
| Lentils | set aside | |
| Chickpeas | set aside | |
| Fava beans | set aside |
A kept vegetable with no condition listed is simply prepared cooked, like the rest of the meal. A vegetable that is set aside stays set aside regardless of preparation: cooking does not move it to the other camp.
One vegetable, two camps depending on how it is cooked
Raw tomato in a salad and tomato peeled, deseeded then simmered are not the same food in the system's eyes. The system keeps only the tomato's flesh, cooked, without skin or seeds. That is what the tomato food page details. Onion follows the same logic, in a sharper way: raw it is set aside, cooked it is kept, with no in between. The difference between the two is the subject of a whole article, is onion tayyib or khabith, and of the onion food page, which details the expected preparation. This shift is not a judgement on the vegetable itself. The word khabith names what is set aside at a given moment, not a food that is bad in itself: changing how it is prepared is sometimes enough to move it to the other camp.
What appears nowhere on the list
The Tayyibat system works as a whitelist: a vegetable that does not appear in Doctor Diaa Al-Awadi's palette is not kept, even when nothing marks it as dangerous. That is the case for carrot, parsley, celery, fresh coriander and broccoli, all absent from the classified vegetable list. This absence does not mean a specific reason sets them aside: it only means they are not part of what the system retained. For the full list of the 122 classified foods, with their status and their condition, the food list is the reference to check before improvising a recipe.
Cooking these vegetables in the site's recipes
Several recipes on the site use these kept vegetables in their expected preparation. Pumpkin, beef and rice pairs pumpkin with a single protein and a measured grain, the basic structure of a Tayyibat meal. Taro and beef stew and taro sautéed in ghee show two ways of cooking this root vegetable, as a main dish or a side. To build a full meal rather than a single dish, the food list lets you check each ingredient before pairing vegetable, protein and grain. The system's e-book gathers all the rules and recipes in a single document, for anyone who wants more than a single article.
Frequently asked questions
Can you eat raw tomato on the Tayyibat system? No. The system only keeps tomato peeled, deseeded and cooked. Raw, with skin and seeds, it is set aside. Is garlic allowed on the Tayyibat diet? No, garlic is not among the vegetables the system keeps, whatever the preparation. Why does carrot not appear on the list of allowed vegetables? Because the system works as a whitelist: a vegetable absent from the palette is simply not retained, which does not mean it is considered risky.
