Tayyibat for SIBO and IBS

SIBO affects an estimated 40% of IBS patients. Mark Pimentel at Cedars-Sinai documented the cause: the MMC digestive cleaning cycle does not run when snacking is constant. Tayyibat's 2-hour rule is the natural protocol that restores it.

The MMC and why snacking destroys it

The Migrating Motor Complex was described by Vantrappen (J Clin Invest 1977). A wave of contractions sweeps the small intestine clean, starting around 90 minutes after the last meal, every 90-120 minutes thereafter IF the stomach stays empty. Eating triggers a 90-minute postponement. So if you eat every hour, the MMC never reaches its phase III sweep. Bacteria proliferate. SIBO develops. Symptoms: bloating, gas, abdominal pain, brain fog, post-prandial fatigue. Pimentel (AJG 2020) documented the chain explicitly.

The Tayyibat protocol for IBS/SIBO

Strict 2-hour spacing between every food and drink intake other than water. No herbal tea between meals during recovery. Three meals a day, no snacks. Avoid fermentable foods (FODMAPs) the first 4 weeks: no garlic (already excluded), no raw onion (excluded), no raw vegetables (excluded), no legumes (excluded). The Tayyibat list naturally matches a low-FODMAP profile. Also avoid fructose-rich fruits (apples, pears, mangoes) the first month, prefer dates, pomegranate, citrus. After 4 weeks, reintroduce one food at a time.

Expected timeline and when to see a doctor

Most patients see significant symptom reduction in 14-21 days of strict 2-hour spacing. Bloating drops 60-80%. Post-prandial fatigue resolves. Brain fog clears in 30-45 days. Full SIBO eradication takes 3-6 months. If symptoms persist beyond 6 weeks, see a gastroenterologist for breath test (hydrogen + methane). If you have IBD (Crohn, ulcerative colitis), gastroparesis, or known small bowel obstruction, consult before adopting strict spacing, your case requires medical supervision.
