How to Gain Weight on Tayyibat, in Practice

Eating more is easy to say and hard to do when hunger is weak. The order matters: two weeks to widen the appetite, then the portions, then the fourth meal, then the training.

First two weeks: widen the appetite, do not force it

People who are thin are usually not thin because they refuse to eat. They are thin because hunger arrives late, leaves early, and digestion feels slow. Adding a big plate on top of that fails within days. So the first move is not more food. It is a clean rhythm. Three meals at settled hours, nothing in between, and about two hours between eating and drinking so the stomach is given one job at a time. Water is taken away from meals rather than during them, which sounds trivial and is not: a full glass with the plate takes up room you are trying to use for food. Two to three weeks of that and the appetite widens on its own. This is the part most people skip, and it is the part that makes the rest possible. During those weeks, keep the portions you already manage. You are not trying to gain yet. You are making the room in which the gain will happen. If the rhythm itself is new to you, [the seven-day guide](/en/journal/commencer-tayyibat-7-jours) sets it out day by day.

Then the portions, with numbers

Once the appetite has widened, three things go up together. Vague advice fails here, so here are the actual figures the system uses. Protein days go from the usual three or four a week to five. The protein portion goes to around 250 grams, and the grain that goes with it to 100 or 120 grams weighed raw, which is a good deal more than it looks like before cooking. Beef with rice, lamb with freekeh: dense pairings that carry a lot in a volume a small appetite can still finish. What does not change is the filter. No sugar, no refined flour, nothing industrial. This is the temptation at this stage, because those things are the fastest way to add calories and everyone knows it. They are also the fastest way to add fat with no muscle behind it, which is not what you came for. The list of what stays in and what stays out does not move because your goal moved: it is [the same allowed foods](/en/tayyibat/aliments) as everyone else's.

The fourth meal, and when it goes

Three meals with bigger portions will only carry you so far. The extra room comes from a fourth one, and its position in the day is not arbitrary. Cream with dates, taken between dinner and going to bed, is the simplest version and it belongs to the system rather than being borrowed from outside it. Keep the usual two hours between it and the meal before, so it lands on a stomach that has already done its work. It is dense, which is exactly the point: it adds a real quantity in a small volume, at the hour when a thin person has the least appetite and the most room. Two practical notes. Keep it as a portion, not as an open bowl you pick at, because dates are easy to lose count of. And if sleep suffers, move it earlier rather than dropping it. The aim is a fourth genuine meal, not a habit of eating late.

Training, or the surplus becomes fat

This is the part people leave out, and leaving it out is what produces a disappointing result four weeks later. Extra food with no demand on the muscle mostly goes where you did not want it. Three sessions a week, forty five minutes each, are enough to change that. One day pushing, with squat, bench and overhead press. One day pulling, with deadlift, row and pull-up. A third day repeating the first with a little more load than last time. Put your biggest protein meal of the day within about ninety minutes after the session, and sleep seven to eight hours, because that is when the building actually happens. As for what to expect, honesty is more useful than enthusiasm. Over eight weeks, roughly one to two kilos of lean mass, plus one to two kilos of water and glycogen that come with it, so three to four in total. And gaining muscle with no fat at all is biologically rare: a ratio around seventy thirty in favour of muscle is a good outcome, not a failure. The full eight-week framework sits in [the weight gain guide](/en/guides/prise-poids).

What slows everything down, and when to ask

Four mistakes account for most of the disappointment. Drinking with the meal, which fills the space you needed. Weighing yourself daily, which shows noise rather than progress and pushes people to overcorrect. Adding sweets because the scale is slow, which changes what you gain rather than how much. And going back to snacking between meals, which quietly undoes the appetite you spent two weeks building. One weekly weigh-in, on the same day, in the same conditions, is enough to see a trend. Three to four kilos over eight weeks means a few hundred grams a week, which no daily scale can show you honestly. And there is a limit to what a plate can do. Persistent thinness deserves a doctor's opinion, and it is worth asking for one, particularly when weight falls without any change in what you eat, or when it comes with tiredness, fever, digestive trouble that lasts, or unusual thirst. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and none of this replaces care. If you are under treatment, keep it as prescribed and tell the person following you that you have changed how you eat, since some prescriptions are adjusted around meals.
